Jerry Lewis Hands Out Another $27K To His Attorneys

Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.), ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, spent nearly $27,000 on defense attorneys, according to his latest campaign-fundraising report.

Lewis, who is under investigation by the Justice Dept. over his ties to a former GOP member turned lobbyist. Bill Lowery, paid lawyers from the firms Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Williams & Jensen a combined $26,982 for "legal services."

Lewis has spent roughly $1 million on lawyers since the Justice Dept. began looking into his ties to Lowery last year. Lewis has denied any wrongdoing, and the probe appeared dormant until a federal grand jury subpoena for a House Appropriations Committee staffer was disclosed last week. Politico first reported the documents and testimony subpoena for Greg Lanker was formally announced on the House floor on Monday.

The California Republican still has nearly $1 million in cash ($955,766) in his campaign warchest, according to his FEC records.
