Jennifer Hudson to guest star on "Smash"

(CBS News) Jennifer Hudson is set to guest star in the second season of NBC's Broadway drama "Smash," the network announced.

The Oscar-winning actress will play Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who becomes involved in the lives of the characters starring in the show's musical "Bombshell," about the life of Marilyn Monroe.

"Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it," said Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, in a statement, reports E! News.

Hudson, will appear in the show's second season premiere and will stay around for a "multi-episode arc."

Hudson won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Effie White in 2006's "Dreamgirls."
