Docs: Ala. woman found dead was wrapped in plastic with ankles, wrists bound
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – An Alabama woman found dead two weeks after she vanished was wrapped in plastic, her ankles and wrists bound, reports CBS affiliate WIAT.
The body of 30-year-old Jennette Sims Brannon was found Dec. 21 at the bottom of an embankment in the Cottondale area. Brannon’s family last saw her Dec. 2 and spoke with her on the phone on Dec. 4.
Capt. Gary Hood, commander of Tuscaloosa County’s Metro Homicide Unit, said Brannon was found behind the home of 58-year-old Charles Richard Sexton.
A court deposition released Thursday says Sexton told investigators Brannon was at his home when they got into a physical altercation during which Brannon sustained an injury to her head that was bleeding badly, reports WIAT.
Sexton allegedly told investigators multiple stories about how Brannon was injured. He said he went to sleep, and when he woke up, he found the woman dead on his floor.
He allegedly admitted wrapping the woman’s body in plastic and moving her to a trash dump behind his home, the station reports.
Sexton is facing a murder charge. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail, but was released on $75,000 bail on Dec. 22, reports Al.com.
Court records reportedly do not list an attorney for Sexton.
