Jaycee's Teacher: We Never Gave Up Hope

One of the many people who are grateful that Jaycee Leed Dugard was found alive after being kidnapped 18 clears ago is Sue Bush, her former fifth grade teacher.

Bush appeared on The Early Show to share her memories of Jaycee and recalls the day in June 1991 when she was kidnapped.

"Jaycee was absolutely delightful. She was always happy, she had a smile on her face. Sparkly eyes. Well liked by all the kids in the room," Bush said.

"What do you remember about that horrible day that she was kidnapped and how did you learn about her kidnapping?" co-anchor Julie Chen asked.

"Well, you know, I actually learned about it after I arrived. I was at school already, I tended to go in tended to go in early. And somewhere between 8:00 or 9:00, I got the call to come down to the office and that's when I found out about Jaycee. And I just want to let you and everybody and Jaycee know that the entire community, her family, her friends, her classmates, her teacher never, ever forgot her or gave up the hope that she would come back some day," Bush said.

Asked how she broke the news of the kidnapping to her students and Jaycee's classmates, Bush says a lot of the children already knew what had happened - turns out some of them actually witnessed the crime.
