Jane Robelot Sets Her Alarm

On Monday, CBS This Morning Co-Anchor Jane Robelot returned to the broadcast from maternity leave after giving birth to her first child, George Robelot De Carvalho, on Oct. 25.

"I'm not looking forward to the alarm clock going off at 4:15 a.m.," says Robelot, "but I am looking forward to getting back into the news loop and the challenge of morning television."

While calling President Clinton's impeachment trial "an incredible chapter in our nation's history," Robelot adds, "I wouldn't trade anything for these first 12 weeks with George. Motherhood is even more of a joy than I could have ever imagined."

Robelot, who has served as This Morning co-anchor since the program's debut in August 1996, is married to Mario De Carvalho, a CBS News cameraman.

On Monday's program, the proud mother told colleagues Mark McEwen and Thalia Assuras that baby George started sleeping through the night when he was six weeks old.

In fact, the baby was sleeping so soundly that, Robelot says, she would wake up and check on him. "It scared me," she adds ruefully. On Monday, her first day back, she admits, she woke him up before she left for work.

How is Mario as a dad? "He's wonderful," she says. "He picks him up and bathes him - a real hands-on dad."

There is a marked physical resemblance between father and son. "No paternity test needed for that baby," Robelot remarked, looking at a photo of her son. "That's my husband, right there. If we put a little mustache on George, you would see Mario."

A George progress report: He is in the midst of discovering the joys of having a pair of hands. He has yet to venture into the wonderful world of feet.
