Is That Starcom Resignation Letter a Hoax?
Starcom is denying that a resignation email making the rounds -- in which an anonymous, long-suffering "senior media planner" announces he's quitting because he makes less than minimum wage for the hours he puts in -- is from anyone at the agency. The email (below) appears to say, "... why I'm resigning from Starcom."
BNET noted yesterday that it looked a bit too good to be true and might be some sort of prank.
Starcom rep Graham Nolan tells BNET that Starcom doesn't employ anyone with the job title described in email. "We don't have water coolers" either, Nolan says, referring to the section in the email in which the man complains about being the only one who ever changes the bottle simply because he sits closest to it. Nolan adds:
I have not seen it [in my inbox]. If it had been sent out, it would definitely get to the PR person.Nolan also points out that if you look at the shape of the screen grab, you'd need a very tall monitor to get it all in, suggesting that someone has gone to lengths to present the image in a just-so fashion.
So, the mystery begins: Where did this possibly bogus email come from and who made it? Use the email contact form underneath this post to let me know!
