Iraq Talks Yield No Progress

Today's meeting between White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolton, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the GOP leaders, over the Iraq funding bill did not go well, both sides said afterwards.

Bolten told the Democrats that Preident Bush will not accept any funding bill with a withdrawal timetable, even if Bush can waive the timetable. Democrats were upset about Bush's unwillingness to negotiate, saying the president refused to acknowledge that a majority in Congress, and the country at large, have turned against the war.
