Iowa Conservatives Push Alito

Iowa conservatives are making it clear: they want Samuel Alito on the Supreme Court, and will oppose any presidential candidate who votes against the nomination.

Several of the state's most influential conservative groups have issued a letter calling for fair hearings and a quick vote.

The letter is addressed to potential presidential candidates and has been made public.

Those who signed the letter include the Christian Coalition, Iowans for Tax Relief and Concerned Women for America.

Opposition from the conservatives would make it difficult for a Republican presidential candidate to compete in the state that holds the first caucus.
