Impeachment Trial: Oath For Senators
The oath to be administered to senators by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist has historic roots.
It is expected to be the one contained in a 1986 version of Senate rules for such proceedings, according to Supreme Court sources.
It states:
"I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be) that in all things pertaining to the trial of the impeachment of William Jefferson Clinton, now pending, that I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: So help me God."
