(CBS) Neither the audience nor the sound system was ready for Iggy Pop's rendition of "Really Wild Child" on "American Idol" Thursday night.

The Hall of Famer (yes, no joke) performed shirtless in his usual writhe-and- roll manner, made all the more bizarre when the sound system kicked out several times, for a few seconds each time.

The 63-year-old punk rocker singled Jennifer Lopez out at the judges' table and she responded by putting her face in her hands. Much is being made on blogs about how she was last on her feet for an ovation.

Comedian Russell Brand also appeared but his taped segment was all but overshadowed by Pop. And in the real shocker of the night, favorite Pia Toscano was sent packing.
