Will Ferrell might be a Democrat (at least when he's not playing George Bush), but Republicans are channeling Ricky Bobby, his alter-ego from Talladega Nights, to score some political points this Thursday.
In a release titled Talladega Frights, the National Republican Congressional Committee is trying to spread a story that ran in Thursday's Charlotte Observer about aides to House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) recommending other congressional aides to get immunized before traveling to NASCAR races at the Lowe's Motor Speedway outside Charlotte, NC, and the famed racetrack in Talladega, Ala.
"Democrats seem to have traded in their usual white flag of surrender for a caution flag as they prepared to travel to Alabama and North Carolina for two of NASCAR’s biggest races of the year," the release read.
While the release is just more campaign chatter in an ongoing drive to paint Democrats as "out of touch" with the "real America" (a term I use with much trepidation), the story itself is fairly humorous (if also a little stale by the time of this posting - sorry).
