iCloud launches for developers, pricing revealed
(CBS) - With iCloud's launch for developers, Apple fans are one step closer to forgetting MobileMe ever existed.
If you're a member of any Apple Developer Programs, you will be able to login to iCloud.com and begin tinkering around with the service. The basic features include Mail, Calendar, Contacts, iWork and Find my iPhone.
Prices for the service are tiered, unlike iCloud's predecessor MobileMe, which was $99 annually. All users will receive 5GB of storage for free that will be added to any plan purchased.
The cheapest paid plan is 10GB (15GB total) of storage for $20 per year. The other plans are 20BG (25GB total) for $40 per year and 50GB (55GB total) for $100 per year.
ICloud will be available to the public this fall.
What does this mean for MobileMe members? If you are a subscriber of the service as of June 6, 2011, you will receive a free extension until the service closes for good on June 30, 2011.
Apple Developer Programs enable independent groups to create and distribute iOS and Mac applications. Entry into the programs are $99 per year.
MobileMe is Apple's previous cloud storage solution. Widely regarded as a flop, the service is currently closed for new business.
