Ice fisherman rescued for second year in a row off Green Bay; this one'll cost him
(CBS/AP) STURGEON BAY, Wis. - An ice fisherman from Illinois had to be rescued for a second time off the shore of Green Bay after drifting away on broken ice.
You'd think he would've learned his lesson last year.
Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says the fisherman was unaware the ice had broken and he was drifting away at around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
Bystanders called 911 to report the man drifting away on a large piece of ice. Vandertie says rescuers used spotlights and an inflatable raft to reach the man about 600 yards offshore.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports the stranded outsdoorsman told rescuers he had been fishing for about two hours.
According to Vandertie, the same thing happened to the same guy in pretty much the same place a year ago. Vandertie says the man, from Elmhurst, Ill., will get a bill this time for the cost of the rescue.
And how 'bout a good talking to?
