<i>American Beauty</i> Rosy To SAG Members

American Beauty, a dark fable of family dysfunction, led movie nominees Monday for the 6th annual Screen Actors Guild awards. The mob tale The Sopranos led television nominations.

American Beauty earned four nominations - best actor for Kevin Spacey, actress for Annette Bening, supporting actor for Chris Cooper and ensemble acting.

The innovative comedy Being John Malkovich earned three nominations, one for ensemble acting and two for Cameron Diaz and Catherine Keener in the supporting actress category.

Other nominees for lead actor in a movie were Russell Crowe for The Insider, Philip Seymour Hoffman for Flawless, and last week's Golden Globe winners Denzel Washington for The Hurricane and Jim Carrey for Man on the Moon.

Other nominees for lead actress in a movie were Julianne Moore for The End of the Affair, Meryl Streep for Music of the Heart and last week's Golden Globe winners Janet McTeer for Tumbleweeds and Hilary Swank for Boys Don't Cry.

For supporting actor in a movie, other nominees were Michael Caine for The Cider House Rules, Michael Clarke Duncan for The Green Mile, Haley Joel Osment for The Sixth Sense and Golden Globe winner Tom Cruise for Magnolia.

The other nominees for supporting actress were Moore for Magnolia, Chloe Sevigny for Boys Don't Cry and Golden Globe winner Angelina Jolie for Girl, Interrupted.

Ensemble nominees for movie acting also included Magnolia, The Cider House Rules and The Green Mile.

The Sopranos had five nominations - best actor for James Gandolfini, three for best actress for Lorraine Bracco, Edie Falco and Nancy Marchand, and for ensemble acting in a drama.

Also on television, the comedy Ally McBeal earned nominations for lead actress Calista Flockhart and co-star Lucy Liu, best actor for Peter MacNicol and ensemble acting in a comedy.

Nominations for male actor in television drama also went to David Duchovny for The X-Files, Dennis Franz and Rick Schroeder for NYPD Blue and Martin Sheen for The West Wing.

In addition to the Soprano actresses, nominees for a drama series were Gillian Anderson for The X-Files and Annie Potts for Any Day Now.

Other acting nominees for a television comedy series were Michael J. Fox for Spin City, Kelsey Grammer for Frazier, David Hyde Pierce for Frazier and Ray Romano for Everybody Loves Raymond.

Other actress nominees for comedy TV series were Lisa Kudrow for Friends, Sarah Jessica Parker for Sex in the City and Tracey Ullman for Tracey Takes On.

Nominees were chosen by 4,200 members of the Screen Actors Guild. All 97,000 SAG members are eligible to vote on the winners, which will be announced at an awards show on March 12, broadcat on TNT.
