Hunger Still A Problem

While many Americans are enjoying holiday feasts, an estimated 31 (m) million face hunger daily, according to America's Second Harvest, a national network that provides food for working poor families and the elderly.

Second Harvest president Deborah Leff says hunger is often overlooked because of the strength of the economy, but it knows no boundaries — geographic or cultural.

She says 38 percent of those served by her organization are children.

Leff says hunger often manifests itself in young students who are unable to focus in class because they didn't have breakfast.

She encourages individuals to support food banks and to back government food programs.
