How to Eliminate Fake Security Alerts
A couple months ago I wrote about the "Antivirus Live" virus, which bombards your system with scary, genuine-looking security alerts -- all of them designed to compromise your system and steal your credit-card info.
These fake alerts can be a serious hassle to remove, which is why it's critical to keep the right security tools on hand (and, ideally, on your flash drive). One such tool: McAfee Stinger, which specializes in removing fake-alert threats.
Stinger is "portable," meaning there's nothing to install: You just run the program from wherever it's stored, then let it do its thing -- which in this case is finding and removing more than 1,300 kinds of malware.
Put this in your utility toolbelt along with SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and you should be able to quickly and efficiently send malware infections back to hell where they belong. [via Download Squad]
