Woman found tied up is charged with murdering husband

HOUSTON - A Houston-area woman has been charged in the 2012 slaying of her husband in a death originally reported as an attack on the couple at their home.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office says Sandra Melgar faces a murder charge in the fatal stabbing of Jaime Melgar.

The woman was indicted July 21, arrested Tuesday and freed on $50,000 bond.

Relatives arrived at the home on Dec. 23, 2012, to help the Melgars celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary. Family members reported finding the husband tied up and stabbed to death in one closet and the wife bound and alive in another, reports CBS affiliate KHOU. Melgar told investigators she blacked out in a bathroom and woke up restrained in a closet.

Investigators haven't released a possible motive for the slaying.

An attorney for Melgar declined comment. Her next court date is scheduled for August 14.
