House Votes To Cut Off Funds From Campaign Committees, Leadership PACs For Spouses

The House has approved by voice vote a bill (H.R. 2630) by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) that would bar congressional spouses from getting paid by congressional committees or leadership PACs.

The Schiff bill, which also had the backing of top Democrats like Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Md.), Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.), Majority Whip James Clyburn (S.C.), and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committtee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.), would prohibit any payments to spouses except reimbursement for travel expenses. Any other payments to other immediate family members would also have to be reported in a separate section of the campaign committee or PAC disclosure report.
