House Votes To Condemn MoveOn.org Ad

The House voted overwhelmingly to condemn liberal advocacy group Moveon.Org for their ad in the New York Times referring to Gen. David Petraeus as “General Betray Us.”

The final vote was 341-79, with 146 Democrats joining 195 House Republicans in passing the resolution.

The motion "condemns in the strongest possible terms the personal attacks made by the advocacy group MoveOn.org impugning the integrity and professionalism of General David H. Petraeus.”

Nearly every Democrat representing a competitive district voted with the Republicans on the measure. The one notable exception was freshman Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), who represents a swing Louisville district and who Republicans have been targeting this election cycle.

The National Republican Congressional Committee, meanwhile, criticized freshman Reps. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and Ron Klein (D-Fla.) for voting against the legislation in the House Foreign Affairs Committee, while voting for it on the House floor.

In a statement, the NRCC criticized them for their “flip-flop” and urged them to return all campaign donations received from MoveOn.org.
