House Patches AMT, Yawn.

The House passed a bill patching the alternative minimum tax on Thursday, lobbing another legislative volley in their never-ending game to stop the reach of the ever-expanding tax.

The tax, originally passed in 1969 to increase rates on 155 high-income taxpayers, is estimated to hit 25 million families this year unless Congress passes legislation.

The problem isn’t patching the tax – almost no one wants middle-income taxpayers to get hit with another fine – but whether to pay for it.
