House Approved Money To Reconvene Iraq Study Group
The House approved an amendment Thursday to reconstitute the Iraq Study Group in a little-noticed move that would set aside $1 million for panel members to present Congress with a second appraisal of the war effort.
This secondary evaluation would compliment whatever report Iraqi Ambassador Ryan Crocker and Army Gen. David Petraeus deliver to Congress in the fall.
But both chambers must first approve the money, something that would not happen until the late fall at the earliest, meaning this secondary study would not be available for members when Congress is expected to embark on the next round of debate over war-funding in September.
