Hottest Summer Swimsuit Trends
Summer beach season is only a week away. But according to Kate Dimmock, fashion director for People StyleWatch magazine, there's still plenty of time to find that "just perfect" swimsuit. Dimmock shared some of the hottest trends you'll be seeing at the beach and poolside this summer.
Dimmock said there are lots of different trends for this summer, everything from pretty florals to exotic prints to all-American classic nautical suits.
So is it all about a one-piece or a bikini?
Both the one-piece and the bikini are strong this season, Dimmock said.
"At StyleWatch, we think it's more about finding your bathing suit personality -- pieces that fit and flatter you and make you feel comfortable."
So what should women avoid when they're shopping for a swimsuit?
Dimmock joked, "Bad lighting! But really, everyone always says that bathing suits are the hardest thing to shop for and it's true. When you go shopping for a swimsuit, make sure you look ready for the beach -- bikini wax, self-tanner -- get it done ahead of time, it'll help set the tone for your shopping trip and help you find the right suit. We also strongly advise trying on a suit whenever you can. Don't just grab something off the rack and hope for the best! And don't be afraid to ask for different-sized tops and bottoms."
Dimmock said you should look for a suit that looks good on you.
"Don't buy a trend for the sake of a trend," she said. "It's about finding what makes you feel sexy and comfortable."
As for men, Dimmock said this season it's not about big baggy shorts or Speedos, it's something in between and there's a definite return to that classic poolside, color-block look.
