Hot Looks For Winter
Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, came to The Early Show to show off some of her favorite winter fashion trends.
This season she said there are plenty of things to suit everyone's taste from bold red to classic tweeds. Coles said no one has to sacrifice their style for warmth: there are plenty of comfortable and fashionable styles out there.
Trend No. 1: Taking a cue from the ski slopes
Keep warm with wooly tights, thick sweaters and vests with faux fur trim. A sweater dress is a great option to avoid pants dragging in the snow. Wedge boots are a great alternative to tired Ugg boots and the pom pom detail makes the boots extra cute.
Trend No. 2: Dark romantic
This season, the Goth look is modified for a more moody romantic look, not a scary look. The look is a little bit Victorian and a little bit rock 'n' roll. To avoid looking like a character from the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" wear solid black with pretty feminine lace and edgy black booties. Coles says keep your face pretty and fresh and avoid dark makeup.
Trend No. 3: English country
This trend is perfect for the dead of winter. Tweed keeps away the cold while still looking posh. To avoid looking like you are attending an equestrian show, pair this tweed with modern skinny jeans and boots with a small heel. The Maxx Studio cape is a great alternative to a winter coat and is perfect to wear over multiple winter layers.
Trend No. 4: Red
The color red ruled the runway this season. This hue, formerly reserved for evening wear, is now daytime appropriate in soft wools or flowing fabrics. If your winter wardrobe is dull, spruce it up with a great red dress or coat. Wear red with a patent pump.
Trend No. 5: Volume
This season there was a resurgence of big clothes on the runway at shows like Balenciaga and Miu Miu. A great way to wear a puffy skirt is with a turtleneck or form-fitting top. Another trick for the volume mini skirt is to wear opaque tights and platform shoes, which elongate the leg and gives a leaner line to your figure. Wear this look for an evening out or for a work dinner.
