Horse on Pa. highway subdued by cops with stun gun, lasso

It wasn't exactly a day at the races when a runaway horse was rounded up with a stun gun and a lasso on a southwest Pennsylvania highway, far from the thundering herd at the Belmont Stakes last weekend. AP Photo/Garry Jones

(CBS/AP) CALIFORNIA, Pa. - State police say they used a stun gun - and a lasso - to catch a runaway horse on a southwest Pennsylvania highway.

Police say the animal was spotted about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh near a California, Pa., expressway exit Wednesday evening. The horse would run away when they approached, so they used the stun gun-lasso combination to subdue and control it.

Police say the animal wasn't saddled and had no identifying brandings or other marks.

They can't find the owner, so the horse was taken by Washington County Animal Control.
