Honda to make walking obsolete with the Uni-Cub

(CBS News) Mankind continues its inevitable journey towards a future that most likely resembles "WALL-E." After all, why walk when you can have a machine carry you anywhere you want to go? The latest invention designed to make walking obsolete comes to us courtesy of Honda: the Uni-Cub.

Swaying your body from side to side is all you need to do to turn, rotate full circle and zip around on the Uni-Cub, which looks a bit like a floating car seat.

The device uses two wheels; the front uses what Honda calls an Omni Traction Drive system that goes forward and back and side to side. A smaller rear wheel helps the Uni-Cub turn in place.

The Uni-Cub is the successor to Honda's previous electric unicycle, the U3-X. Unfortunately, it's still a ways away from being available to the public. The company plans to begin demonstration testing in June.

Until then, we'll just have to walk around on our own two feet like cavemen. Or buy a Segway.
