Holiday Heist: Stolen FedEx Truck Found

Armed grinches nearly stole Christmas early Friday morning in Manhattan after accosting a FedEx truck driver at a stoplight and stealing the 18-wheel truck, which reportedly was carrying more than $1 million in cargo, including holiday gifts.

The truck was eventually located by police around 5:30 a.m. in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, reports Magee Hickey for CBS station WCBS-TV. Police didn't believe any of the contents inside was missing.

Police say the incident began as the driver was on his way to a company facility in Newark. While he was stopped at a traffic light at 47th St. and 11th Ave., two men approached the truck, pulled guns on the driver and forced him out of the truck. The driver was put in another car and driven around for awhile.

He was found around 1:30 this morning in Brooklyn.

The driver, who has worked with the company for 25 years, wasn't hurt, police and FedEx Corp. spokesman Steve Barber said. Police do not consider him to be a suspect.

Sandra Munoz, a FedEx spokeswoman at the company's headquarters in Memphis, Tenn., said FedEx was working with police. "We don't know whether anything is missing at this point. But this is a busy time of the year, and people are shipping Christmas presents," Munoz said.
