Hoekstra Again Calls On Craig To Resign

Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra, the first Republican to call on Sen. Larry Craig to resign earlier this summer, once again called on the embattled senator to step down Friday, the day after a Minnesota judge denied the Idaho Republican's appeal to reverse a guilty plea earlier this summer in a sex sting at the Minneapolis airport.

“Serving in the United States Congress is one of highest honors in America," Hoekstra said in a statement. "It is a position of leadership with many demands upon the individual whom voters have elected to represent them, and one of the most important is to exhibit behavior that upholds the dignity of the office.

"Sen. Craig has consistently fallen far short of that standard over the past two months," the Michigan Republican continued. "To maintain the integrity of the title of senator from the state of Idaho in the United States Congress and of the Republican Party, Sen. Craig should resign his position immediately.”
