High school soccer player fatally shot after game in L.A.

Francisco Rodriguez, 17 CBS Los Angeles

(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - A 17-year-old high school soccer player was lured outside his Los Angeles home and shot to death after a game between two San Fernando Valley schools.

Francisco Javier Rodriguez, Jr. was shot to death Wednesday night in front of his home. Investigators say the killing wasn't a random act.

CBS Los Angeles reports the soccer goalie had just been dropped off at his house after a game when a girl reportedly knocked on the door and asked Rodriguez to come outside.

He was then shot three times before the suspect or suspects fled. It's not known if the killer fled on foot or in a vehicle.

Teammates say there are no known rivalries with the Taft High School soccer team, which they tied during Wednesday's game.

"I loved him. I truly loved him. Got to know him... he was a great kid. He meant well, " Ian Kogan, the team's coach, told the station.

Detective David Leveque says Rodriguez was a target, but a possible motive hasn't been disclosed.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in finding Rodriguez's killer.
