Heimlich Hero Saves Fellow Fan at Yankee Game

Army medic John Stone was enjoying a game at Yankee Stadium Wednesday when he and his brother spotted a commotion ten rows in front of them: A woman was choking.

When it became obvious some fans sitting near her weren't succeeding in their efforts to do the Heimlich maneuver to help, Stone says, he went down and offered his assistance.

Next thing he knew, he was performing the maneuver.

And it worked. A piece of steak came flying out of Tobey Weiss, the wife of a prominent Bronx rabbi.

Weiss and her family thanked Stone, and fans cheered him when the episode was over. The Yankees quickly moved Stone, an Iraq veteran, and his brother, who's on leave from serving in Afghanistan, and his brother's girlfriend down to the front row -- $1,250 dollar seats, and gave them a bag filled with goodies.

Stone and Weiss told the story on "The Early Show" Friday, and then CBS News Correspondent Medical correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton demonstrated the Heimlich maneuver.

The basic steps: Reach around standing victim from behind, make a fist above the naval, wrap your other hand around your fist and tuck in your thumbs, and pull inward and upward into the abdomen in a series of quick thrusts. Then assess the person's condition and repeat if necessary:
