NEW YORK (CBS) The revamped, re-imagined revival of "Hawaii Five-0" debuted on Monday night.

The  classic, which aired for 12 seasons from 1968 to 1980, has undergone a 2010 upgrade. It was the longest-running cop show in TV history, until it was surpassed by "Law & Order." Thirty years later, the bikini-clad criminals, tanned crime fighters and sexy police officers are looking to give "CSI Miami" a run for its money.

Alex O'Loughlin plays Detective Steve McGarrett and  Scott Caan is  a moody, sarcastic Danny "Danno" Williams. "Lost's" Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly and  "Battlestar Galactica's" Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua complete the cast.

Early reception for the series puts  it on track to be one of the new season's hits, with critics calling it a "fun surprise" and a "successful reboot."

Underlining the series is the theme of family. Marsters' character kills McGarrett's dad because McGarrett killed Marsters' brother; Chin Ho is protective of Park's Kono.

Together, they form a tight workplace family. People are getting shot and punched all in the name of keeping the ordinary citizens of Hawaii safe.
