I always check out what's new in National Bureau of Economic Research working papers, and a new one, "Is Well-being U-Shaped over the Life Cycle?", reports that among American men, happiness reaches a minimum at the age of 49, then rises.Holy cow. So that's what's been going on. Well, my 49th birthday is only a couple of weeks away, and I damn well expect to start getting happier as soon as I blow out the last birthday candle. If I don't, someone's going to pay.
BTW, American women bottom out at age 45. If you were born in 1962, things should start looking up soon.
