Group: Civilians Under Attack In Northern Congo

An international aid group says rebel attacks on civilians in northern Congo are spreading.

Medecins Sans Frontieres called Wednesday for an end to the abductions of children, beatings and killings, and said more humanitarian workers are needed in the region.

MSF, also known as Doctors Without Borders, blamed the violence on a shadowy Ugandan rebel group called the Lord's Resistance Army.

They also cited a military offensive by Ugandan and Congolese soldiers against the rebel group.

The Lord's Resistance Army has been waging an insurgency in northern Uganda for more than 20 years, and the conflict spilled over into Congo about five years ago.
