Grizzlies Waive Bobby Hurley
Point guard Bobby Hurley, who led Duke to consecutive NCAA titles in the early 1990s, was waived by the Vancouver Grizzlies on Monday.
Acquired in a four-player deal that sent Otis Thorpe to Sacramento last Feb. 18, Hurley played in 27 of the Grizzlies' final 30 games of the season, averaging 4.5 points and 17 minutes a game. Not fitting into the team's plans, the 27-year-old from New Jersey had not even been invited to training camp last week.
Hurley, a five-year NBA veteran, suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-car accident during his rookie season with the Kings. Hurley had eight hours of surgery to repair a torn trachea. He also suffered injuries to his ribs, right knee, left shoulder and back.
