GridMove Brings Windows 7-Style Window Docking to XP and Vista

As most Windows 7 users are aware, the new OS lets you dock windows just by dragging them to various areas of the screen. GridMove is a free utility that offers Windows 7-style drag-and-dock window management.

This little animation doesn't really do the program justice. GridMove creates a grid on your desktop, then lets you move windows into any area of the grid by way of mouse gestures or hotkeys.

The utility includes several different grid templates and also lets you design your own. You can organize all your windows in one fell hotkey swoop, and customize the hotkey options to your liking. Best of all, GridMove supports multiple monitors.

I particularly like the how-to tooltips that appear when you mouse over a window's title bar and minimize/maximize controls. They help keep the learning curve to a minimum.

I'm not sure I could get accustomed to using a utility like this, as I generally prefer to maximize my windows and just cycle through them with Alt-Tab. That said, a lot of area on my widescreen monitor frequently goes to waste, so maybe I should take advantage of GridMove. Thoughts? [via AppScout]
