Gravedigger accused of killing wife, burying her in Va. cemetery, arrested in N.C., report says
(CBS/AP) CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A gravedigger who is accused of killing his wife and burying her in a Virginia cemetery was arrested in Charlotte after a two-week manhunt, CBS affiliate WBTV reports.
U.S. Marshals arrested 30-year-old Adan Quiroz Rodriguez on Thursday and charged him with murder in the death of his wife Ashley Rodriguez.
The U.S. Marshals Service says the Alleghany County, Va., Sheriff's Office began investigating the disappearance of Ashley Rodriguez after she failed to show up for work. According to WBTV, authorities believe she was killed between May 5 and 6 in Alleghany County, Va.
Officers later found her remains in Alleghany Memorial Park in a part of the cemetery that was only accessible to employees. Deputies say Adan Rodriguez worked at the cemetery.
They think he shot her and buried her there.
According to a report from the U.S. Marshals Service, obtained by WBTV, Adan Rodriguez allegedly fled to North Carolina to avoid apprehension after his wife's body was found.
He was found hiding, two weeks later, on May 30, in a closet at a home in Pineville, N.C., the station reports.
Rodriquez was in the Mecklenburg County jail awaiting extradition. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
