Beer emergency? Grandma allegedly callied 911 for a cold one

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Authorities say a Memphis grandmother was arrested after she called 911 for beer.

A police affidavit shows that 68-year-old Rosie Pate was taken into custody New Year's day, and charged with domestic assault and making a 911 call in a non-emergency situation.

Police said Pate became angry with her granddaughter and slapped her with an open hand when she wouldn’t buy Pate beer. The affidavit said Pate then dialed 911 seeking “police assistance in getting a beer.”

Pate was released from jail on her own accord. She reportedly denies that she called police to bring her beer.

“I have lived to be 68-years-old and I never dialed no police to bring me beer,” she told CBS affiliate WREG. “I wouldn’t dare dial 911 to tell the police to bring me some beer.”

Pate called the situation a “misunderstanding.” Instead, she says, she only called 911 to report a fight with her granddaughter over “a coke and a 20-ounce can of beer.”

This case could soon come to a head. Pate is due in court Friday.
