"Grandma Bandit" suspect killed, actually a man
(CBS/WGCL) ATLANTA - DeKalb County police announced Friday night that the person believed to be the so-called "Grandma Bandit" is actually a man.
The suspected 'Grandma Bandit', 57-year-old Roxanne Taylor, was shot and killed after a chase with police Friday morning, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.
According to CNN, Taylor was the suspect in a string of armed robberies of Atlanta-area CVS and Rite Aid stores.
Police were chasing Taylor when he wrecked his car at Interstate 85 and North Druid Hills and then died from a gunshot wound.
Taylor was in the drive-through at an Atlanta Wendy's when an employee recognized him from the news and called police.
Workers told WGCL that Taylor has been a regular for more than a year at the fast food restaurant and sometimes left a tip.
The employee called the police because she saw a handgun and wig on the passenger seat.
Taylor led police on a chase and rear ended another car on the North Druid Hills overpass over I-85.
He then exchanged fire with police and was then shot.
A DeKalb County police spokesman told WGCL they are not sure whether the suspect shot himself or if police shot him.
The gold Jeep Liberty he was driving has multiple gunshot wounds through it.
Police believe he was living with friends or out of his car and do not believe he has family or children.
