Google updates Chrome for Lion

Google

(CBS) - Now that Mac OS X Lion is out (and the reviews say "yay" for the operating system - it has already won some fans), it only makes sense that Google would update Chrome to match.

In fact, Apple reported over 1 million copies of Lion have been sold since its release on July 20. A statement issued by Apple said that "users are buying Lion faster than any other OS release in Apple's history."

The search engine released a new developer version of the browser to re-enable the multitouch gesture people have grown to learn and love in the Lion, which was released last week.

Mac OS X Lion, Apple's eight major operating system upgrade, is now available for download from the Mac App Store. The Lion, which will set you back $29.99, got more than 250 new features, including major changes in its interface that make certain actions easier. Add to the list: FaceTime video chatting, AirDrop wireless transfer, multi-touch gesture and autosave.

"Yesterday, though, Google released Chrome 14.0.835.0 for Mac (and 14.0.835.0 for Linux, and 14.0.835.2 for Windows) that changes the forward and backward navigation to two-finger swipe gestures on Apple machines," reports CNET. "The fix worked on my MacBook Pro, but it'll be some weeks before Chrome 14 arrives as the stable version intended for mainstream users."

Essentially, Chrome has been tweaked to institute two-finger swipes to move backwards and forwards on a page, as well as support multiple user profiles that lets people use the Web with different online personas.

"Since the new Chrome will tie in with Lion's gestures directly, you will also be able to customize gesture-based navigation further," reports Business Insider. "It would hypothetically be possible to assign four finger swiping to Spaces, and three-finger swiping back to page-based navigation."

This Google Chrome update will be released to the public in a few weeks.
