Google to launch mobile apps gift cards at Target, GameStop, RadioShack, report says

(CBS News) Google Play may be getting a boost in sales with a little help from brick and mortar establishments.

According to a recent report by The Verge, Google will be rolling out gift cards for its mobile app store, Google Play. The gift cards will be carried at Target, GameStop and RadioShack in increments of $10, $25 and $50. Walmart will offer the gift cards online in August.

The gift cards can be used to purchase apps, music or movies at Google Play and should be rolling out in the "next few weeks."

Apple and Facebook both have gift cards on sale at retailers nationwide. Google Play's gift cards are poised to compete with Apple's iTunes gift cards, which can also be used to purchase apps, music and movies. Facebook's gift cards generally cater to in-app purchases from games, like FarmVille or CityVille.

Google Play launched in March.In addition to adding movie rentals the entertainment hub combined Android Market and Google Music under one brand.
