Google Docs Gets Bump with Dramatically Improved Charts Editor

Most people shy away from apps like Google Docs because their lightweight feature set usually doesn't include the sort of charts and graphs you need to visually interpret spreadsheet data. Well, chalk one up for Google: A new chart editor gives Excel a run for its money.

Google Docs' chart editor now automatically recommends the best chart type based on the data you provide, matches labels and headings, and even auto selects reasonable color palettes.

Google has improved the look of all charts which is nice, but the best part is that there are now a handful of new chart types. Google has added org charts, motion charts (which readily visualize changes over time), and gauges. Want to learn more? Check out the video from Google's blog.
