(CBS News) ABC's "Good Morning America" has finally topped NBC's "Today" show in the coveted ratings demographic of adults 25-54.

During the week of July 23, according to Neilsen, "Good Morning America" earned 4.837 million viewers over the "Today" show's 4.2985 million. In the category of adults ages 25-54, "GMA" earned 1.851 million over 1.839 million for "Today."

The week was the first time in almost 17 years the broadcast beat out "Today" in total viewers and adults 25-54, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

"GMA" first surpassed "Today" in total viewers back in April, THR notes, and has scored several wins since. Last week marks "GMA's" fifth consecutive week on top in terms of viewers.

Now as NBC broadcasts the Olympics, "Today" has beat "GMA" by more than 1 million viewers a day.
