Gonzales Hangs In After Hill Show

Now that the dust has settled a bit from Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' confrontation with the Senate Judiciary Committee last week, White House officials are feeling somewhat better about Gonzales' prospects of keeping his job.

"What may be the news out of all this," says a senior White House official, "is that is he went and testified for all those hours, and guess what? There was nothing new."

Administration officials say the AG was back on the job the next day, acting very much as if he's staying there for a long time. And Bush repeated his support for Gonzales, saying the AG's appearance before the committee "increased my confidence in his ability to do the job."
