Gmail Tip: Automatically Advance to the Next Message

As we've noted many times before, Gmail ain't perfect. In fact, there are a couple things about it that are kind of annoying, like when you're thrown back to the inbox the instant you archive or delete the message you're currently reading.

Gmail Labs' new Auto-advance feature takes you to the next conversation instead. To enable it, go to the Labs tab in Settings, scroll down to Auto-advance, choose one of the available options, and then click the "Save changes" button.

You have the option of auto-advancing to the next (newer) conversation or the previous (older) one. Me, I like to start with the oldest message, so I'd opt for the former.

This isn't an earth-shattering development, obviously, but it does solve one of Gmail's annoying little quirks. Me like. [via The Official Gmail Blog]
