Gmail down, experiencing service disruptions

Gmail experienced a brief outage on Friday.

Service for the social network Google+, including Hangouts, were also affected.  According to Reuters, the services were unavailable in India,  Britain and the United States. Users attempting to sign into Gmail were greeted with an error message.

The website DownRightNow.com tweeted Friday, “Gmail is down or having service trouble, based on user reports/other sources.” 

On Twitter, users complained that they could not access their emails. The hashtag #whengmailwasdown were attached to jokes about having to sign onto chat services provided by AOL. Yahoo Inc. posted a screenshot of Gmail's error message on its Twitter account.

Google’s app status dashboard shows that Gmail is experiencing service disruptions and posted this note at 2:12 p.m. ET: "We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly."

Google's main Twitter account posted this message at about 3:33 p.m. ET, "Hang in there—most of the issues w/ Google services have been resolved. Check the Apps Status Dashboard for updates." 

 

 

The company could not be reached for comment.
