GLAAD Media Awards nominees announced

(CBS) "Modern Family," "Glee," Lady Gaga and "J. Edgar" are among this year's nominees for the GLAAD Media Awards.

The nominees, announced Thursday, honor "outstanding images of the LGBT community" in film, television, music and media, GLAAD said in a news release.

The best film category consists of "J. Edgar," "Albert Nobbs" and "Beginners," while the best TV drama and comedy series lists include "Modern Family," "Glee," "Shameless," "The Big C," "Grey's Anatomy," "Degrassi" and "Pretty Little Liars."

Lady Gaga is nominated for outstanding music artist, and "Dancing with the Stars," which featured Chaz Bono and Carson Kressley as contestants last season, was recognized in the reality TV category.

Ricky Martin is among the Spanish-language nominees, for his album "Musica + Alma + Sexo."

The awards will be handed out in New York on March 24, in Los Angeles on April 21 and in San Francisco on June 2. Special honorees for each city will be announced at a later date.
