Give Your PC a Tune-Up with Comodo Registry Cleaner

Ah, the Registry -- home to a million hamsters running on a million wheels, all working to keep Windows running smoothly. Of course, with that many hamsters and that many wheels, problems are bound to crop up. Sometimes a wheel breaks, sometimes a stray fox gobbles up some hamsters. You know.

Enter Comodo Registry Cleaner, which promises to fix busted wheels, clear out the hamster bodies, and so on. (Okay, this analogy is getting unnecessarily grim.)

More accurately, CRC eliminates "junk" Registry entries, the kind that can slow down and even crash your system. You can run the program manually or configure it to scan your system at designated times. And it has a backup feature just in case a fix goes afoul.

On my year-old notebook, CRC quickly found nearly 400 Registry errors. A quick scan of the results showed a lot of entries for programs I'd uninstalled long ago, meaning their Registry detritus was definitely unwanted.

Comodo Registry Cleaner is free. It requires Windows 2000 or later and comes in both standard and portable versions, the latter designed to run from flash drives.

If the name Comodo sounds familiar, it's because the company also makes venerable freebies Comodo Backup and Comodo Firewall Pro. [via CyberNet]
