Girl left paralyzed, 10 others shot at New York house party
(CBS) - Eleven people were injured in a shooting at a New York barbecue on Friday, including a 15-year-old girl who was left paralyzed, according to a report.
Six men and five women were struck during the 1 a.m. shooting behind a family home in Jamaica, Queens, reports the New York Post.
The girl who is paralyzed was indentified by friends as Lanesha Simpson. She was hit with a round that severed her spine, reports the paper.
The going-away party was organized via text, Facebook, and Twitter. Two women worked as security in the front of the house patting down guests and asking for identification. However, despite the security measures, two uninvited intruders fired gunshots through a chain link fence at the guests from an alley near the house.
The organizers claim they do not know who the shooters were and police have not made any arrests.
