Girl, 3, found in car with bodies of two gunshot victims, Fla. police say
(CBS/AP) FORT MYERS, Fla. - Police found a 3-year-old girl in a car with the bodies of two gunshot victims in southwest Florida. The child was unharmed.
Fort Myers Police found the girl asleep in the backseat with the bodies of Jerrett Byrd, 23, and Chariah Owens, 16, inside the car around 4 a.m. Tuesday. The bodies had multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. The child is Owen's cousin.
Police are now investigating what prompted the shooting and why the child was with the victims. Authorities are combing the crime scene for clues and have moved the car to a secure location.
The child was taken to the hospital and later released to the custody of state child welfare officials. Police said they contacted her parents.
