Ghost stories lead landlord, tenants to supernatural civil suit

AP

(CBS/AP) TOMS RIVER, N.J. - Are you living in a haunted house?

A Toms River, N.J. couple contends they were, so they fled the place in March. Now their landlord is suing them, claiming the couple's false - and frightening claims - will scare away potential new tenants or buyers of the property.

Who ya gonna call?

The Asbury Park Press reports that Michelle Callan and her fiancee said they found clothes mysteriously ejected from their closets, and heard all kinds of strange noises, including the sound of something being dragged through the basement.

Spooky, huh?

Their landlord, Richard Lopez - fearing the economic impact of the ghost stories - is seeking damages from the couple in state court. They're also all in litigation over the security deposit.

Lopez says the engaged couple bolted because they couldn't afford the rent.

Was it frightfully high?
