George Allen Making A Comeback?

Virginia voters started getting robocalls this weekend from a polling firm called Voter Roll Call, asking a very interesting question: What are their favorable and unfavorable views of former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.), and would they support Allen or former Democratic Gov. Mark Warner in a Senate race next year?

The same voters were also asked their favorable/unfavorable views on Warner and former Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore, and their opinion on a Gilmore/Warner matchup.

They were also asked their feelings on President Bush and Democratic and GOP leaders in Congress.

Voter Roll Call is located in Verona, N.J., and is owned by the same company that owns Survey USA, a well-known polling firm that does automated polls. Calls to Voter Roll Call for comment were not returned.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican Party of Virginia said they were not behind the robocalls, so who is sponsoring the poll is a mystery at this point.

Allen himself has “expressed no interest in running,” said Katie Wright, a spokeswoman for the former senator, who lost to Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) last November. There have been rumors about Allen potentially running for governor again, but as with a potential Senate race, it doesn’t seem in the cards now.
